Frequently asked
How long do I have to file the appeal?
Typically 1 month from receipt of the notice (§ 84 SGG for social courts, § 70 VwGO for administrative courts, § 355 AO for tax matters). If the notice lacks proper appeal instructions, the deadline extends to 1 year. Still act quickly — the clock starts at delivery, not at when you notice the letter.
Is the appeal process expensive?
No — the appeal process before the authority is free of charge. A subsequent lawsuit before the social court is also fee-free for citizens (§ 183 SGG). Lawyer representation is optional and only incurs costs if you choose it.
Do I need to give a reason?
Not legally required, but strongly recommended — without reasoning, the authority decides on file alone and usually denies again. LexiLetter drafts appropriate reasoning based on the notice and cited legal bases, so the authority must re-examine the case.
